Chapter Ten

I sat next to Ethan on the terrace, my knees pulled to my chest, nibbling on some sort of fruit that had been delivered to us. We looked out over the view of the town, watching the small pixies, shimmering in the dark night sky. It was beautiful out there, and the temperature was perfect. I tried to imagine what it would've been like to grow up in a place like that, to not know the pain and evilness of the world like humans did.

"Do you think you can save them?" Ethan asked.

A puffed up my cheeks. "I don't know, that's a lot. Obviously, I would want to, I would want to save any life, but I'm not a warrior. I'm not a fighter. The kind of wars they are talking about, you can't use a controller to win."

Ethan rested his chin on his forearm, yawning wide. "I've always known that you were special. I mean, not a traveler from another realm, actually royalty special, but different. I think that you'll do great. And I'm going to be right there by your side, making sure of it."

I smiled and leaned my head on his shoulder, trying to keep the thoughts of battle out of my mind. Fear would do nothing for me in that realm. Everything I've ever wanted, everything I had ever dreamed of seemed so trivial to where my life had led me. At least I had Ethan, and I knew my parents were still living.

I thought about Artemis and snorted. "I can't believe that I watched a recording of a villain trying to blackmail me into marrying him in order to keep my parents alive. It sounds like a plot for a fantasy novel."

Ethan laughed. "At least you're part of the team, in their eyes. I'm like the funny best friend sidekick. And apparently, they call humans fleshy's. That sounds like something from the Ghostbusters."

I leaned my head back and laughed loudly. "I really want to just call you that for the rest of your life."

"Please don't. Please."

I sat up, still laughing, and nodded my head. "I'll spare you for now, but remember that's in my bank of threats for the future."

Stretching my arms out to the side, I yawned loudly, not realizing how tired I was. It was all hitting me at one time, and I was struggling to keep my eyes open. Ethan groaned, lifting himself up from the terrace floor. He put his hand out for me and helped me up as well. "You should get some sleep. The bed looks absolutely amazing, and for every hour you sleep, it's one hour closer to being able to take a cream bath again."

I wiggled my eyebrows. "I can't wait."

I walked Ethan to the door, and we paused, kind of awkwardly actually, shifting our arms back and forth like we were doing some sort of dance. Finally, I latched onto him and just hugged him like I was trying to from the beginning. He chuckled abashedly as he opened the door and backed out.
